Guest Information
Located in the centre of the UK, the Peak District was Britain's first National Park and offers breathtaking landscapes, bustling market towns and outstanding cultural and historical heritage. Covering over 1,400 square kilometres of some of the most beautiful countryside in the world, the rich and diverse scenery is a paradise for walkers, cyclists and extreme sports enthusiasts, as well as being a haven for the more relaxed lovers of nature. As Britain's most visited National Park, the Peak District offers something for everyone. From stunning scenery, outdoor activities, vibrant market towns, historic properties, a World Heritage Site and many more attractions and locations to make your stay as energetic or as relaxed as you like. Activities range from walking to windsurfing, cycling to rock climbing, events, festivals, historic houses, shows and excellent shopping - or just relaxing and taking in the beautiful surroundings. The High Peak in the north has a wild and rugged landscape that is home to the show caves of Castleton, the Pennine Way, the Derwent Valley historic dams and the elegant spa town of Buxton. To the south east are the Derbyshire Dales and the historic market towns of Bakewell and Ashbourne. Climbing is a key activity on the craggy gritstone edges in this part of the park. Spectacular views can be found in the Staffordshire Moorlands to the south west of the region. Shop for antiques in Leek, climb the Roaches or meander through the Manifold Valley or Dovedale. The historic houses of the Peak District, together with its stunning scenery, are in great demand as locations for films and TV dramas. Follow in the footsteps of famous novelists or modern day film stars and discover the dramatic settings for 'Jane Eyre', 'Pride and Prejudice', 'The Dambusters' and 'Peak Practice'. The Peak District boasts a varied and attractive landscape in one compact, easily explored area. With its heart of England location it is easy to get here by road, by rail, by coach or even by air. With one of the best rural public transport networks in the country, once you're here you can sit back and enjoy the views whilst someone else does the driving!
